The older we get, our priorities change a bit.  What was once a regular weekend activity of getting dressed up, going out and eating and drinking and meeting up has become a not so usual, once in a while, thing.  Sometimes we forget how important it actually is to get out and mingle with others (edit: ADULTS) because all we can see is what is right in front of us: I have to pick up my son by this time to make it to taekwondo at this time and then have to cook dinner and eat it by this time so we can do homework and baths by this time so they can get in bed by this time, lather, rinse, repeat.  Breaking away from the every day crazy of life once in a while is a new goal of mine.  We all deserve a little time away from the same.

One of my groups of friends  have decided to do monthly “girl’s night”.  The structure of the nights have not been the same since we started doing this.  Last time we got together, we were doing beer and bacon flights.

This time was just going to be a little dinner.  Just getting to get together and spend some time over food and talk and laugh hysterically has been completely soul cleansing.  Right after we finish one, we start to plan the next.  We all need the time and look forward to it so much now!

My favorite thing about girl’s night is that I get to dress up and put on makeup and jewelry!  I am a PE teacher and my work uniform consists of workout clothes, hair back in a bun, and little to no makeup every day.  I have gotten to a point where I crave putting on some nice clothes and bedazzles.

One important part of a good girl’s night is the LOCATION!  We have been trying to support new locally owned businesses in town.  And in this group, food is super important.  We decided to visit a new restaurant that has been getting some buzz for having amazing food: Izzy Pub & Sushi!

As I said before, the structure of our girl’s nights changes depending on our Saturday responsibilities.  All of us had places to be pretty early on Saturday morning, so we were just going to do dinner.  But, what is a GNO without some wine?!  Even if it is only a glass, it makes the time out feel fun and fancy!

A couple of our group members don’t do sushi, so we got a bunch of appetizers to share.  They were SO good!  We love to do this at most of our night’s out.  Just order a bunch of food and everyone gets to try some.  Appetizers seem to be the best to do this so we can just take from the middle and not have to do much passing around.  Here is what we got:

Edamame

Edamammus with Garlic Naan Points (This was SO tasty!  So refreshing!  And those Naan Points were ridiculously good.)

Pork Belly Skewers

Pork Katsu

Korean Chicken Bites

This was PLENTY of food.  BUT…we couldn’t go to one of the best up and coming sushi restaurants in town without getting some sushi.  (Those of us that eat it anyways…)

P.S.  They tasted as good as they look!

After a long day (ahem…week) at work, it was fabulous to get to unwind with these ladies and just be an adult for a little while.  Who knows, next time we may even get to do this on a Saturday and be able to have some drinks! Until then, get your GNO going with some of your favorites and just wait and see how much better you feel.
